Briar Patch Ranch is a functioning, working farm located on 16 acres in Groveport, OH. Along with all of the agriculture and farming aspects, our unique facility also includes classrooms, meeting rooms, a computer lab, and a workshop; all of which help to provide a (K-12) year round educational resource designed for kids struggling with academics or behavior.
Students who are struggling to maintain focus or thrive in a traditional school, may need a break from their current atmosphere and require a more structured or specific therapy. Our goal is to help students work towards a high school diploma, or until they demonstrate their capability to return to a less restrictive learning environment.
Some examples of diagnosed conditions/behavioral issues children suffer that make them excellent candidates for our program include :
- ADD/ADHD
- Autism
- Bipolar
- Depression
- Entitlement issues
- Expulsion
- Hostility towards family
- Irresponsibility
- Lack of motivation
- Lack of respect
- Low self-esteem
- ODD
- PTSD
- Truancy
- Unmanageable Behavior
In addition to providing a specialized educational environment for students, the farm plays an integral role in making it possible for much of the "school work" to be hands-on, experimental, relevant, and collaborative. Students learn important skills in day-to-day lessons on the farm. The farm, with its projects and chores, provides real-life activities that support the transition from an educational program to life in the real world.
We have designed our program to meet the following objectives :
- to teach students how to learn and think analytically
- to teach decision making for a positive future
- to guide each student into career decisions appropriate to their abilities and gifts
- to give students a quality education in preparation to be productive members of society
- to meet the requirements for graduation as set forth by the state of Ohio
